How to Make Scented Soy Candles

There are so many kinds of scented soy candles—pillar candles, jar candles, private label soy candles and so many more. They are all beautiful and practical to use that sometimes you just want to buy them all. However, for some who experience financial restraints, that is not possible.

Fortunately, soy candle making enables you to enjoy different kinds of candles without having to spend a lot. To help you with your candle making endeavour, here are some tips on how to make different kinds of soy candles:

Soy Votive Candles
To make votives, you will need votive molds, double boiler (one to boil to the water in and another to melt the wax in), pre-tabbed wicks, thermometer, votive wax, color block or liquid dye, liquid scent, and a stove or hot plate.

1.    Fill the bottom pot with water and heat it on the stove.

2.    Attach the thermometer to the side of the pot where you will put the wax. Put the wax in the melting pot and place on top of the pot with water. Be careful not to put any water in the mold or wax because this will ruin the process.

3.    Using a grater, shave small amounts of color block. Wait for the wax to reach 130 degrees before you add these shavings to the melting pot.

4.    Stir the mixture using the thermometer until the color is well blended with the wax. Test if the color is enough by dropping a small amount on a piece of paper. Just remember that the color in the pot is darker than the actual color while the color on the piece of paper is lighter than the end result. So if you want a moderately red candle, the color in your pot should be dark red and the color on the paper should be somewhat pinkish.

5.    Add the scent and then stir again with the use of the thermometer.

6.    Pour the wax into the mold slowly, leaving a small amount on the pot. After 1-5 minutes, insert the wick in the center of the mold.

7.    After the wax cools, reheat the leftover wax in the pot and pour this on the pit around the wick.

8.    Let the candle cool completely then remove from the mold.

Container candles
Now for this type of candles, you will need the same materials but replace votive molds with glass jars and votive wax with container wax.

The first five steps are similar to the procedure in making votive candles.

6.    Attach the wick tab to the bottom of the jar with glue or a double sided tape.

7.    Prepare the container by pouring the exterior sides with hot tap water. Just be careful not to get any water inside the jar.

8.    Pour the wax into the container with care. Again, leave some amount in the pot to be used to fill the pit around the wick later.

9.    Tap the sides of the container and let is stand for 45 seconds or until the wax hardens.

10.    Fill the pit around the wick with the reheated wax you left in the pot.

11.    Let the candle fully cool before you cover the lid.

Don’t forget to add your personal touch when making your soy candles. If you’re a flower person, add scents of roses; if you’re fond of animals, make pet candles.

Lastly, when making candles, it’s imperative that you invest effort and patience to ensure that you produce nothing short of quality scented soy candles.
